Täljsten, also known as soapstone, gets its name from its excellent heat-retaining properties. It has long been used in cookware, molds, and stoves. Täljsten has been quarried in Handöl, in Åre municipality, as far back as the 1500s. The stone contains a high amount of talc, which gives it a smooth, almost greasy surface and allows you to cook on it without using any fat.Its high talc content and density enable it to absorb heat quickly and release it slowly – making täljsten the perfect ingredient for a cozy dinner at Bydalens Wärdshus.
